Visit Note Types

For Admins Only
To edit Visit Note Types in Settings, you must have Admin privileges. To become an Admin, you must ask for an existing Admin at your practice (most likely a primary physician account holder) to grant you privileges via Manage Accounts in Settings.

The Visit Note Type controls the title or “heading" of your note, as well as whether or not that note will be counted in the denominator of eligible patient visits in Meaningful Use calculations.

For example, if you create a visit note type called “Procedure Note,” when you print that note it will read Procedure Note at the top to indicate to other providers what kind of note it is.

To create a new visit note type:

  1. Click
  2. Enter the desired name for your visit note type
  3. Select either “yes” or “no” under “Count for MU"
    • If you select “yes,” visit notes with this type will be counted as office visits for MU
    • If you select “no,” visit notes with this type will be excluded from MU calculations
  4. Click "Save"

To edit an existing visit note type:

  1. Click “edit” on the visit note type you wish to edit
  2. Change the name or MU toggle
  3. Click "Save"

Note: If you change a visit note type to start counting towards MU or vice versa, it will not affect historical calculations. The change will only go into affect from the point that you change it moving forward.

To remove an existing visit note type:

Click “remove” on the visit note type you wish to remove.

Note: When you remove a visit note type and there are old notes of that type, those notes will continue to keep that visit note type. Removing a visit note type means that you will no longer be able to create new visit notes with that type.

To sort visit note types:

Click on the handle on the left hand side of the visit note type and drag it to re-order it.

Default Visit Note Type:

The visit note type that you sort to the top of the list is your practice's default visit note type and will appear with a star next to it. Unless otherwise specified via the Appointment Type, whenever anyone in your practice creates a visit note, it will have this default type.
