Elation lets you send and receive electronic faxes right from your EHR.
- Incoming faxes are received in your Fax Inbox.
- Outbound faxes are sent with the Provider Letter or Referral features.
Your practice’s fax usage for a month is the total number of fax pages sent and received by everyone at your practice.
Each practice gets a set number of free fax pages each month. If you go over this monthly amount, you'll be charged extra fees.
Keep an eye on your fax usage on a regular basis to avoid these overage fees.
Each Regular (i.e. full-time, prescribing) Provider Level User gets 1,500 free fax pages each month. Other user types do not receive free fax pages. Your practice’s total free pages each month is based on how many eligible providers you have. For example, if there are 2 eligible providers, your practice gets 3,000 free pages per month.
Elation charges $0.07 per page for fax use that goes over your practice’s free monthly allotment. Any extra charges will appear on your next month’s invoice.
Premium EHR users can enable a setting to only allow Admin Level Users to view the Fax Usage & Settings page.

To view and monitor your practice's fax usage:
1 | Click on your email at the top of your Elation account and then click Settings. |
2 | Click into the Fax Usage & Settings page. |
The Fax Usage & Settings page provides real time data about your practice’s fax usage. All inbound faxes received through your designated Elation fax number and all outbound faxes sent via the Provider Letters or Referrals features count towards your total fax usage and are visible on this page.
Failed faxes are not counted towards your total fax usage.
How can I better manage my fax usage?
As a best practice to reduce your outgoing fax page count, limit how often you select the option to fax attachments when sending Provider Letters or Referrals. Instead, you can encourage recipients to access essential attachments through Elation’s secure Elation Connect portal, which conserves your practice’s fax usage and gives your recipient on demand access.

Do I get charged if I go over my complimentary monthly allotment?
Yes, Elation charges $0.07 per page for usage that goes over your practice’s free monthly allotment. Any extra charges will appear on your next month’s invoice.

Yes, you can purchase more fax pages for your practice at a discounted rate. Click the I need help -> Contact Elation Support button to ask about our fax packages.
The Fax Usage & Settings page is not showing my fax package. Why?
The Fax Usage & Settings page only shows your practice’s free fax pages for the current month. If you have a fax package, add your purchased pages to your free pages to calculate your total available fax pages for the month.
Do failed faxes count towards my fax usage?
No, failed faxes do not count towards your fax usage numbers. If you successfully resend the fax, then it does count towards your fax usage.
Is the fax cover page included in my fax usage count?
Yes, the Provider Letter/Referral fax cover page sent by Elation for HIPAA compliance does count towards your fax usage.
Does the page instructing recipients to view the correspondence in Elation Connect count towards my fax usage?
Yes, the page instructing recipients to view the correspondence in Elation Connect does count towards your fax usage.
