Import Patient Information from another EHR (C-CDA Format)

Last Updated: Apr 29, 2017 07:40PM PDT

C-CDA stands for Consolidated-Clinical Data Architecture and it is a means to securely transfer medical records between EHR systems. All 2014 Certified EHR systems are required to allow providers to import and export C-CDA files so that they may securely transmit medical records among one another.

How to Import a C-CDA File into Elation

1. When you have the C-CDA file you want to import onto your computer, drag-and-drop the C-CDA .XML file only into the patient chart you want to import the data for.

2. Wait for the C-CDA file to turn into a patient summary. Once the file is done processing, you will see a new "Patient Summary" Requiring Action item in the patient chart. For a full overview of how the summary looks like, see the "Sample C-CDA Summary" PDF attached at the bottom of this help article. Otherwise, a quick overview of the items in the Patient Health Summary are shown below:

3. We allow users to have specific data be imported and integrated directly into Elation from the C-CDA file. This includes Allergies, Demographics, Immunizations, Medications, and Problems. The other items included in the C-CDA file will remain to be viewed and referenced in the Patient Summary item when you sign off on the Patient Summary.

  • Import Specific sections
Allows you to choose the individual sections that you would like to import from the C-CDA.  Select the sections you want and click "Import & Reconcile". For example, the image below shows how you can choose specific problems to import when you choose to import only Problems:

  • Import All
Imports all items in Allergies, Demographics, Immunizations, Medications, and Problems from the C-CDA file into the patient chart.
